WHAT TO EXPECT
We know that it can be a little scary visiting a new place for the first with all the new people, the new surroundings and all. So we figured the best way to help take care of that would be to provide you with enough info here to help familiarize you with the building, people and the "going-ons" so that you will feel like you have been here before. Here goes...
COME AS YOU ARE
We don't really have a dress code. Some people come dressed very casual and some come dressed to the nine. Whatever your style is, wear it.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
The parking situation is pretty simple. First come, first serve. There are plenty of spaces but they go fast so come early if you would like one near the doors. There are several spaces at the front that are reserved for our Seniors that have trouble walking. Don't worry though if you find yourself running a few minutes late, our parking lot is nothing like Wal-Mart. We have even asked our regulars to park across the street at the ball field to leave room for you.
WALKING IN
When you step up to the doors, you will be greeted by smiling faces that are very enthusiastic about making sure you don't have to strain your arm to open them yourself. These people are well informed and should be able to answer any questions you may have or direct you in any direction you may need to go. You can click here for a floor plan of the building and scope out the place ahead of time if you like. If this will be your first time with us, please make sure to let these greeters know. They have a gift they would like to put in your hands.
OUR SERVICES
THE MUSIC...
So our services are pretty cool. We start promptly at 9 am and 10:45 am and kick it off with Worship. Our band has been playing together for a looong time and they're pretty tight. Our music style is mostly contemporary but occasionally we mix in some of the older hymns with an updated flavor. We don't sing out of books but you don't have to worry about not knowing the words. We put the lyrics on a screen at the front which you can see from anywhere you are sitting. It's not required that you stand or raise your hands during the music but there are some who do. We want you to feel comfortable to sit if you want/need to and worship God from your heart. The front altars are always open to those who like a little front row action and need a little room.
MEET & GREET...
One of our main characteristics as a church is that we really want to take the time to get to know each other. We take a few minutes every service right after the music to allow people some time to shake hands and greet those around them. Jesus said that the world will know we are His disciples by the love that we show for one another and this is just one of the ways we practice that.
ANNOUNCEMENTS...
Right after the meet & greet, we will show a video with some announcements of some recent happenings in the church. Sometimes there will even be testimonies woven into the video to share how God is working in and through the lives in the congregation.
THE OFFERING...
Participation in the offering is completely up to you. We don't want you to feel like we are after your money. God doesn't either. We want you to have a good understanding of why we give and how to give in a way that pleases God. Pastor will always share scripture that talks about this before we take up the offering. We have some guys that will pass these handy little velvet bags with handles down each isle and if you would like to participate, just slip your offering in when it comes around. If you would like a statement that shows how much you gave during the course of the year, and to use as a deduction on your taxes, then just put your offering in one of the envelopes provided on the backs of all the chairs. Fill out the information and we will make sure to get that statement to you sometime in January.
THE MESSAGE...
We have a great Pastor who loves what he does. One of the driving factors in Pastor Don's life is communicating the Word of God in such a way that he puts the cookies on the bottom shelf where you can reach them. In other words, he communicates the Word of God so that you leave with something that you can apply to your life; something that you can begin to walk out daily. It isn't some cryptic code that you have to go home and decipher with a secret decoder ring that you received when you mailed in the required amount of labels from cans of Ovaltine that you and your family struggled to gulp down. While Pastor's messages are always challenging and cut through all the fluff straight to our hearts, they are always coupled with the Hope that is in Christ Jesus and a life lived for Him.
FOR YOUR BABIES
We want you to have the best, distraction-free experience when you come so we have arranged for a nursery to take care of your little ones while you are in service. The nursery caters to children between the ages of newborn - 3yrs. Your kids safety is important to us so we have made sure that all the ladies working in the nursery have been CPR certified and have cleared an extensive background check. When you sign your child in, you will be given a number for your child. If the nursery workers need you for some reason, your number will come up on a little box near the music screen.
FOR YOUR KIDS
ON SUNDAYS...
4 & 5 year olds - Kings Kids does a great job of teaching pre-schoolers that they are children of The King and they have a heavenly father that loves them. The subject of their lessons are very age appropriate and will teach your kids the Word of God on a level they can comprehend. There are all sorts of object lessons and games that are used to stimulate their learning along with adding some fun. Who says we can't have fun in church?
6-12 year olds - Your kids will love Kids on Track! Your kids will have more fun with Mrs. Debbie and her team than anyone they have ever met. They have puppets, music, skits, illustrated lessons and games! At Mont Belvieu Assembly we believe that a successful Christian life as an adult starts when you are a child. The Bible says to "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6. That's what Kids on Track is all about! We do everything we can to teach children the Word of God because when they face trials in life, they can always lean on scripture. We believe that it's never too early to start learning the promises that God has for us and his instructions on how to live a life the glorifies God and encourages others.
ON WEDNESDAYS...
5-12 year olds - On Wednesday nights we're taking off to travel the world! Every 5 weeks your kids will be in a different country learning fun facts about the land and the people that live there. They will have opportunities to earn Frequent Flyer Bucks which they can spend on souvenirs at High Point Island every fifth week. During their adventures, your little travelers will learn how the Word of God is impacting the lives of people all around the world. Your kids will leave feeling empowered and full of faith, confident that they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength (Philippians 4:13).
FOR YOUR TEENS
ON SUNDAYS...
Your teens are invited to join you in "Big Church". Pastor Don speaks with enough energy to make the Energizer Bunny look like his batteries are finally running out. They will be challenged, as will you, to make each day about developing a relationship with Jesus and sharing His love with the people around us.
ON WEDNESDAYS...
Now this is when things get crazy! Pockets, our Youth Pastor, has a major heart for kids. Mainly because he is a big kid himself. We try to create an atmosphere each week where teens can come and feel safe to be who God created them to be and also a place where they can be encouraged and charged to continue in a world that confronts them daily with tough challenges. We want them to know that there is a God who loves them, is greater than anything they will ever face, and who has plans for their lives that are far better than anything they could ever imagine themselves. We also want your teens to learn how to be the leaders of their worlds so we are always making opportunities available for them to be involved in some form of ministry based on what they like to do. There is always somewhere for everyone to be involved.
